P. Clear Phlegm

Phlegm represents a mucoid, sticky, obstructive substance, and is more than just the mucus of the sinus and mucous membranes. All thickness in the body can be said to be due to the Phlegm humor. This, therefore, may be either in the ‘first regions’ (gastrointestinal system), as well as within the Tissues or Channels of the body.

Types of Phlegm Obstruction:
1. Phlegm Obstructing the Lungs–coughing, wheezing and breathlessness associated with Phlegm
2. Phlegm Obstructing the Stomach–poor appetite, nausea, thick tongue coating
3. Phlegm Obstructing the Channels–all types of Lumps, Nodes and Swellings
4. Blood Stagnation (coagulated Blood) is associated with Phlegm
5. Obstruction of the Brain and Nerves by Phlegm: Loss of Consciousness, Loss of the Senses, Mental Dullness, Paralysis may be caused by Phlegm. Some types of Epilepsy are caused by Phlegm.

Hot Phlegm
This is similar to Damp-Heat conditions where the Damp has become more thick. It is seen in obstruction with Heat and certain types of Infection. Bronchitis and acute Lymphatic Swellings are examples.

Cold Phlegm
This is associated with poor digestion and Yang deficiency. It may be associated with Edema, Asthma, Wheezing and stifling sensation of the Chest and various Cold Swellings
