Function:
Clears Heat, resists Poison

Use:
1. used for acute, epidemic and infectious diseases including Small Pox, Chicken Pox, Measles;
2. also for Fevers with Diarrhea

Dose:
1 scruple–1 dram

Cautions:
Not suitable for those with cold and weak Digestion

1. This and many variations were commonly used for acute, epidemic and infectious diseases. The Earths are absorbent and absorb toxins from the intestines and are astringent, so are useful for Fever with Diarrhea.
2. Note the Deer horn replacing the Deer Heart-bone. Philosophically preparation is a type of calcination (‘vaporous calcination’) where the horns are put into the top part of a still which is nearly
filled with water, then the water is boiled until the horn is white, taking 2 or 3 days. Normal calcined Deer horn may be used.
