Preparation:
Prepare a standard decoction.
Function:
Releases constrained Lung Qi, Clears Heat, Resolves Phlegm, Stops Wheezing
Use:
Cough and wheezing with coughing up yellow Phlegm, a greasy yellow tongue coat, with a slippery rapid pulse.
1. Chronic Cough
2. Chronic Bronchitis
3. Bronchial Asthma
4. Emphysema
5. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Dose:
The above decoction is divided into 3 equal doses to be taken over the course of a day.
Cautions:
1. Not used for acute Cold-type Cough
2. Not used for Cough and Wheezing with marked deficiency
Modifications:
1. Wheezing due to Cold, add Ephedra Ma Huang
2. Heat in the Lungs, take with Ma Xing Shi Gan Tang
3. Severe Lung Heat, add Gypsum (Shi Gao), Coptis Huang Lian
4. Lung Infection, add Scutellaria Huang Qin, Houttuynia Yu Xing Cao.
5. Cold Phlegm that is hard to expectoirate, add Mustard seed (Bai Jie Zi), Radish seed (Lai Fu Zi)
6. Bronchial Asthma, add Earthworm
7. Bronchial Asthma with excess sputum, add Platycodon Jie Geng and Arisaema Tian Nan Xing
