Preparation:
Prepare as a decoction; it may be prepared as pills or tincture
Function:
Move the Blood, clear Stasis, warms the Channels and stop Pain
Use:
Lower abdominal pain which is worse with cold; dull complexion, cyanosis of nails, lips and tongue; purplish or dark tongue with wiry, choppy or slow pulse
1. Uterine or Groin pain
2. Masses of the lower abdomen with or without pain
3. Abdominal Tumors
4. Hepatic Cirrhosis
5. Amenorrhea
6. Dysmenorrhea with purple-red or dark blood with clotting (see research below)
7. Irregular menstruation with dark or clotted blood
8. Abnormal Uterine Bleeding
9. Lumbago during menstruation
10. Mittelschmerz
11. Endometriosis
12. Ovarian Cysts, Uterine Fibroids
13. Recurrent Miscarriage
14. Infertility
15. Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy; early Prostatic Hyperplasia
16. Lumps or Tumors of the Prostate or Testicles
17. Post Traumatic Pain
Dose:
the above can be taken over the course of a day; if prepared as a powder, 6–9 grams 2 or 3 times daily
Cautions:
1. Not during pregnancy
2. Not for excess menstrual bleeding or any bleeding disorder.
Modifications:
1. Infertility from lack of ovulation, with Dioscorea Shan Yao.
2. Continuous or heavy menstrual bleeding from Heat, add Scutellaria Huang Qin and Coptis Huang Lian.
3. Cysts or Fibroids with pain and dark menstrual blood, ad Self Heal and Zedoary.
