Function:
Clears Wind, purges Heat, clears the Exterior
Use:
Fever and chills, dizziness, red eyes, thick yellow phlegm, bitter taste, red tongue with yellow coat and a rapid or wiry pulse.
1. Influenza
2. Acute upper respiratory tract infection
3. Carbuncles
4. Dermatitis
5. Acne
6. Urticaria
7. Heat rash
8. Food poisoning
9. Acute Mania
10. Obesity
Dose:
6–9 grams with a decoction of fresh Ginger
Cautions:
1. Only used for acute cases with Heat
Modifications:
1. With Chills, remove Ephedra
2. If there is no marked Fever, omit Gypsum.
Similar Formulas:
Niu Huang Shang Qing Wan
In pill form, this can be used more broadly for acute Wind-Heat or Heat-toxin.
