Preparation:
Traditionally coarsely powdered and boiled to form a draught; today the above may be decocted to take in two doses over the day.
Function:
Clears Wind and Damp, Opens Obstructions, Tonifies Qi and Blood, Bones and Joints
Use:
1. Arthritis, especially of the lower body, lower back, hips
2. Rheumatoid Arthritis
3. Osteoarthritis
4. Sciatica
5. Numbness, mild Paralysis, Immobility
Dose:
The above is taken as a dose daily.
If used as a powder, the dose is 3 grams, 2–3 times daily.
Cautions:
None noted
Modifications:
1. Severe pain, add Bungarus (Viper) Bai Hua She, Earthworm Di Long and Safflower Hong Hua.
2. Severe Cold, add prepared Aconite Zhi Fu Zi and dry Ginger Gan Jiang
This opens the channels, clears Cold, Wind and Damp from the channels, nourishes Qi
and Blood, tonifies the Kidneys and Liver, and strengthens the Bones and Joints. It is a
very good long-term treatment for chronic joint disease.
Because it can clear Wind and Damp from the channels, it can be used for joint
disease associated with Numbness or Immobility, and can help some cases of mild
Paralysis. It can also be prepared as a wine for a small glass to be taken daily.
