Preparation:
Decoction
Cook in 4 cups of water to 2 cups, and divided into 2 equal doses.
Function:
Purges Heat
Use:
Fever, sweating, thirst, abdominal fullness, distention, and pain, constipation, red rongue with a dirty yellow coat, rapid pulse
1. Acute Constipation (with Heat), including Post-operative and Opiod-related Constipation
2. Abdominal fullness, distention and pain
3. Acute Appendicitis
4. Acute Cholecystitis
5. Acute Gastroenteritis (modified had a 92% effiucaci in a clinical trial: Chen & Chen)
6. Chronic Gastritis (modified had a 96% efficacy in a clinical trial: Chen & Chen)
7. Hypertension
8. Viral Hepatitis (was effective in 39 of 40 cases treated: Chen & Chen)
9. Severe Tonsillitis
Dose:
The above makes 2 doses. It can be taken morning and evening of the same day, or for 2 consecutive mornings.
Cautions:
1. Not used in Pregnancy
2. Not used in Weak patients
Modifications:
1. If there is deficiency, add Astragalus Huang Qi and/or Ginseng
2. If there is Blood deficiency, add Dang Gui and Ligusticum Chuan Xiong
3. Severe Tonsillitis add Coptis Huang Lian and Platycodon Jie Geng
4. Severe rumbling and bloating, add Costus (Mu Xiang)
5. Acute Gastroenteritis: add charred Hawthorn (Shan Zha), Costus (Mu Xiang), Coptis (Huang Lian)
6. Viral Hepatitis: add Licorice, Scutellaria Huang Qin
