Preparation:
Decoction. The shell is decocted for half an hour before adding the otehr herbs; Uncaria Gou Teng is added near the end.
Function:
Calms the Liver, settles Wind, clears Heat, benefits Liver and Kidneys
Use:
General pattern for this formula: Headache, dizziness, vertigo, tinnitus, blurred vision, insomnia, red tongue and a rapid pulse.
1. Liver Headache
2. Migraine
3. Dizziness and Vertigo
4. Hypertension (essential and renal–commonly used for Hypertension)
5. Epilepsy
6. Cerebrovascular disease
7. Transient Ischemic attacks
8. Hemiplegia
9. Facial Paralysis
10. Post-Stroke Paralysis
11. Parkinson’s Disease
12. Trigeminal Neuralgia
13. Aphasia
Dose:
The above may be taken over the course of a day in serious cases. Otherwise it may be used over 2 days. If prepared as a powder a dose of half–1 level teaspoonful 2 or 3 times daily is adequate.
Cautions:
1. This is overall a cooling formula and so is most suitable for Liver Heat conditions.
Modifications:
1. Antelope horn Ling Yang Jiao powder is taken with the decoction in severe cases.
Commonly used for Hypertension.
