Preparation:
Powder the herbs, add the Tabasheer in powder, then mix well with the powdered Sugar Candy.
Function:
Clears Heat, resolve Phlegm, opens the Airways
Use:
1. Cough: Dry or Productive, acute or chronic
2. Common Cold
3. Influenza
4. Bronchitis
5. Asthma, Wheezing
6. Acute Respiratory tract infection
7. Pneumonia
8. Can be useful in some chronic Lung diseases
9. Sinusitis
10. Allergic Rhinitis
11. Acute Sore Throat
12. Hoarseness
13. Burning sensations
14. Acute and Chronic Fever
15. Thirst associated with Heat or Fever
16. Intermittent Fever (Typhoid and Malaria)
17. Goiter
Dose:
3 grams with Honey and/or warm water, three times daily; some prefer Honey and Ghee as a vehicle; for Vata conditions, it is mixed into warm milk. Continued daily for up to 8 weeks for Malaria
Cautions:
None noted
Modifications:
1. Cough, and Lung and Throat conditions in general, add Licorice
2. Chronic Lung diseases, add Chebula and Licorice
3. Common Cold with Runny Nose, take with Trikatu
4. Goiter, add Trikatu, Bdellium and Calamus
5. High Fever, take with a little Bezoar
This is a much used Ayurvedic remedy, both at home and by physicians. It is primarily for Cough and Cold, but has been found to be useful for various other Lung diseases and Fevers etc.
