Preparation:
Powder.
It is also often prepared as a decoction with 2–3 times the dose of each of the herbs.
Function:
Strengthens the Lungs, Benefits Lung Qi and Yin, Stops Cough
Use:
Cough and Wheezing, Weak and rapid pulse
1. Chronic, severe Cough
2. Chronic Bronchitis
3. Wheezing
4. Asthma
5. Bronchiectasis
6. Emphysema
7. Silicosis
8. Pulmonary Tuberculosis
9. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Dose:
Powder: take 6 grams as a draft with fresh Ginger and Jujube (Da Zao).
Cautions:
1. Not used for acute (exterior) conditions (Cold, Flu)
2. Not used for cases with excess Phlegm
Modifications:
1. As Poppy capsule is obsolete, Chebula (He Zi) or Gingko (Bai Guo) can be substituted.
2. More severe Yin deficiency, add Ophiopogon Mai Men Dong
3. If there is excess Phlegm, omit Poppy capsules (Ying Su Ke) and Prunus mume (Wu Mei) and add Trichosanthes fruit (Gua Lou Zi) and Citrus Chen Pi.
4. If there is an exterior Wind-Cold condition with persistent Cough, omit Poppy capsules (Ying Su Ke) and Prunus mume (Wu Mei) and add Ephedra Ma Huang and Cinnamon twig (Gui Zhi).
