Preparation:
Powder, mix with 16 ounces of Spirit of Wine, then add 8 ounces of Honey to form a Confection. In Winter, add 2 drams of Long Pepper.
Function:
Clears Cold, stops Wind, strengthens the Liver and Spleen
Use:
1. Paralysis
2. Dead Palsy (Paralysis without feeling)
Dose:
1–2 spoonfuls each morning

Modifications:
This listed by Wirtzung under the section on ‘Dead Palsy’. The Dead Palsy ‘does suddenly take away the free motion and action of a part of mans body particularly, or wholly, and makes it dead and insensible. We do call the same a resolution of the Sinews, or a Dead Palsy, and them that be troubled with it, Paralyticos’. ... ‘This is marvelous much commended for a special remedy’. (Wirtzung, 1598)
