Preparation:
Digest in gentle warmth to extract a Tincture.
The better way of making it is to make a Spirit of Juniper Berries distilled from their fermented substance, and preferably from fresh Berries. This makes a more penetrating Spirit.
Function:
Warms the Kidneys, Promotes Urine, clears Wind-Damp
Use:
1. Edema
2. Stones
3. Prevents Infection during Epidemics
4. Amenorrhea, Dysmenorrhea
5. Cough, Asthma
6. Arthritis, Rheumatism (internally and topically)
7. Cramps, Convulsions, Paralysis (internally and topically)
Dose:
10–30 drops, up to 50 drops.

Modifications:
The Tincture of Juniper opens and discusses, resolves, dissipates and attenuates. It opens obstructions of the Liver and Spleen, strengthens the Brain, Nerves, Breast, Stomach, Kidneys and Lungs.
Principally used to promote Urine in Edema, and to clear Stones; it dissolves all Sandy, Viscous, Slimy or Tartarous substances of the urinary system. Also used for Colic.
It promotes Sweat, and preserves against contagion during Epidemics and Infectious times. Rolsincius said it "is a wonderful thing ... in depuration of the Blood, and preserves from Pestilential contagion"; said to be a "great preservative against the malignity of the Plague, and all Infectious and Pestilential Airs".
It also promotes Menstruation in women, and is is given for Cough, Hoarseness and Asthma. Used both internally and externally in Paralysis, Cramps, Convulsions and Rheumatism.
