Preparation:
Steep a day in 4 lbs of warm water. After gentle boiling, straining, and pressing, make a syrup with 1 1⁄2 lbs. of fine sugar or Honey (which is better).
Function:
strengthens and opens the Lungs, clears phlegm and Heat, aids Respiration
Use:
1. Acute Cough
2. Bronchitis
3. Shortness of Breath
4. Laryngitis
5. Pharyngitis
6. also Phlegm obstructing the Stomach
Dose:
2–4 oz, often taken with another syrup such as Coltsfoot
Cautions:
None noted
Modifications:
1. Can be taken with Syrup of Coltsfoot to make it stronger.
2. Almonds were added to make it stronger. Bitter Almonds are stronger to stop Cough and Wheezing, but Sweet Almonds are more nourishing and better in deficient cases. 3. Note that if 1 oz. of Hyssop is added, this is Syrup of Licorice
