Amount
4 oz. (1 part)
1 lb. (4 parts)


Preparation:
Dissolve the Aloes in the juice, then in the sun or a water bath, evaporate the moisture. This process of impregnating in Rose juice was traditionally repeated 4 times. At last, the mass is formed into pills.
Rose juice is clarified by gently heating and removing the scum; then it is poured off from the sediment and is ready for use.

Function:
Clears Heat, purges Bile, cools and strengthens the Head, Stomach, Bowels and Liver, opens Obstructions

Use:
1. gently purges the Head, Stomach, Liver and Bowels of all bad humors;
2. promotes Digestion and Appetite;
3. Stops Diarrhea coming from Heat;
4. good for Yellow Jaundice.
5. It was also given for failure to thrive in Children and Rickets.
6. It was said to ‘Strengthen the Body exceedingly’.


Dose:
1 scruple–1⁄2 dram

Cautions:
None noted

Modifications:
1. For weak Children, failure to Thrive, and Rickets, it was taken in a preserved Cherry.
2. Taken with Amber and Myrrh to strengthen the Stomach and Uterus.

This is a mild and gentle cooling purge, having lost all the harshness of raw Aloes. It is gently Cool, mildly bitter, and astringes after it has worked. A number of old authors regarded it as strengthening rather than depleting.
