Raisin & Licorice


Raisins are Warm, Moist and Sweet. They nourish and strengthen, tonify the Qi and strengthen the Lungs, Spleen and Stomach. They are very useful for acute and chronic Lung conditions including Cough, Asthma, Wheezing, Shortness of Breath, and to nourish the Lungs in chronic Lung diseases.
    
Licorice is warm and sweet, strengthens the Spleen, Tonifies the Qi, and benefits the Stomach. It is also much used for Cough, Asthma and various Lung diseases, and has an effect of clearing Heat and Poison. It is also a main medicine to relieve the negative effects of all harsh medicines.
    
Together, they are Warm and Sweet, and their primary focus is on the Lungs. They gently nourish and strengthen the Lungs, increase Qi, stop Cough and hinder Wheezing. They can be used in acute and chronic conditions with signs of deficiency.
    
They are particularly useful for these conditions in children.
    
They are also used in some strong formulas to soften and correct strong cathartic medicines.

Examples:
Blessed Water Compound (Compound Lime Water), Pectoral Decoction, Syrup of Marshmallow, Syrup of Radishes, Anti-Asthmatic Syrup

Additions
1. Children’s Cough, including Whooping Cough, add Thyme
2. Cough with Heat, add Plantain.
3. Lung Yin deficiency, add Comfrey
4. Lung Qi deficiency, add Elecampane and Aniseed
