Preparation:
Decoction. Originally, the lower doses given above were used. Today, the higher dosage range is generally used.
Function:
Transform Phlegm, Opens Obstruction, Resolves Masses
Use:
1. Goiter
2. Scrofula
3. Benign Thyroid Tumors
4. Hyperthyroidism
5. Breast lumps, Fibrocytic Breast disease
6. Thyroiditis
Dose:
The above is decocted to be taken in three equal doses over the day. To be effective, it must be continued for at least 12 weeks.
Cautions:
If there is marked deficiency, tonics are added.
Modifications:
1. For weakness and fatigue from Qi deficiency, add Atractylodes Bai Zhu and Poria Fu Ling
2. To strengthen the effect against Goiter, add Sparganium San Leng and Zedoary (E Zhu)
3. Hard swellings, add Safflower (Hong Hua) and Peach kernel (Tao Ren)
4. Breast lumps, add Self Heal (Xia Ku Cao), Cyperus rotundus (Xiang Fu), Hedyotis Bai Hua She She Cao, Sparganium San Leng and Zedoary (E Zhu)
