Two different products are used in TCM. Regular Wheat, and 'Light' Wheat, the latter floating when put in water and has a shriveled appearance.
Wheat was also the primary source of Starch

1. Nourishes Heart Yin, Calms the Spirit:
-Agitation, Irritability, Restlessness
-Insomnia, Dream-disturbed heat
-Emotional disorders, Hysteria, Melancholy, mild Depression
-Anxiety
2. Benefits the Kidneys, Promotes Urine:
-Dysuria
-Diabetes Mellitus
3. Externally:
-softens Tumors
-applied to Inflammations including Erysipelas and Gout
-applied as a cold poultice to Eye inflammations
-Boils, Skin diseases and Ulcers (Ayurveda)
LIGHT WHEAT (Fu Xiao Mai)
1. Benefits Qi, Clears Heat, Stops Sweating:
-Spontaneous Sweating
-Sweating from Deficiency
2. Nourishes Yin, Clears Heat:
-Night Sweating from Yin deficienct Heat
-Steaming Bone Syndrome
-Yin-Deficient Fever, Hectic Fever
Dose:
Decoction: 10–20, up to 30 grams

Main Combinations:
WHEAT (Xiao Mai)
1. Worry, anxiety, dream-disturbed sleep, Wheat, Chinese Date (Da Zao), Licorice (as in Gan Mai Da Zao Tang)
2. Emotional disorders, Wheat, Paeonia Bai Shao, Cyperus rotundus (Xiang Fu), Polygala Yuan Zhi, Mother of Pearl (TCM)
3. Dysuria, Wheat with Plantains seed
4. Inflammations and Erysipelas, mix Wheat flour, Honey, Oil and Water, and apply.
5. Gout, mix Wheat flour with Henbane juice and apply.
6. Red Eyes, apply wheat bread soaked in Rose water.
7. Boils, mix Wheat flour, Egg yolk, Honey and a little Saffron (or Safflower), apply.
