Satureja montana; S. hortensis (Summer Savory)
Garden, Mountain, Cretic and Thyme-leaved varieties were known

Parts used:
Herb

Temperature & Taste:
Warm, dry. Pungent

Classifications:
2D ATTENUATERS OF CONGEALED BLOOD
4a. CEPHALIC.    4i. UTERINE

Uses:
1. Clears Damp, Moves the Qi, Benefits the Stomach:
-indigestion, Crudities, poor Appetite
-stimulates appetite, carminative and promotes digestion

2. Clears Phlegm, Stops Cough:

-diseases of the Lungs, Cough, Asthma

3. Moves the Blood, Promotes Menstruation:
-obstructed Menstruation
-diseases of the Uterus coming from obstruction
-tonic for the Uterus (Haller, Lexicon, 1755)

4. Benefits the Eyesight:
-quickens and clarifies the Sight

5. Warms the Kidneys:
-Aphrodisiac (Matthiolus
)

6. Externally:
-externally it discusses Tumors, cures Pains of the Ears
-used to repel and Kill fleas

DOSE:
In Decoction: 3–6 grams
Of the Powder: 1–3 grams

SUBSTITUTE:
Oregano or Thyme can replace Savory

Main Combinations:
1. Diarrhea, with Tormentil and Peppermint (Flämig)
2. Stomach cramps and colic, with Thyme
3.
Cold Coughs, with Horehound, Rue, Hyssop, Oregano, Thyme, Pennyroyal, Fennel seed, Aniseed (as in Decoction for Cold Coughs)

Major Formulas:
Decoction for Cold Coughs (Nicolas Myrepsus)
Syrup of Horehound (Fernelius)
Powder of Cumin Greater (Nicholas)
Electuary of Hyssop (Diahyssopus) (Nicholas)
Triphala Electuary of Fennel Seeds (Unani)
Antidote for Cold Kidneys and to Excite Libido (Nicholas)
Pills to Provoke Urine
