1. Clears Heat, Cools the Blood:
-Fever with Thirst; Delirium (West, Tibetan)
-Heat of the Blood (West); restores the Blood (Tibetan)
-good for Heat affecting the Heart or Stomach
2. Clears Heart Fire, Benefits the Heart:
-Heat of the Heart, Palpitations, excess Heart rate
-Restlessness, Irritability, Insomnia
3. Clears Heat, Strengthens the Stomach:
-excess Heat of the Stomach, with abdominal pain, strong appetite and constipation
-Poor appetite, indigestion, bloating (TCM, West, Tibetan)
-Food retention, abdominal distention (TCM)
-Spleen deficient Diarrhea (TCM); Dysentery (Tibetan)
-Scurvy
Dose:
Apple Syrup: 2–6 oz. or more

Main Combinations:
1. Fever in Children, Syrup of Apple, Syrup of Lemon, Syrup of Mint
2. Pleurisy, core an apple, fill with Mastic or Frankincense, seal the apple with the part removed and roast it. Then eat the Apple. (Wirtzung)
3. Heart weakness, Apple and Pomegranate juices, formed into a syrup. This is the basis of some electuaries containing herb and gems.
4. Palpitation from Heat:
i. Syrup of Apple, Syrup of Citron peel, Water of Balm
ii. Syrup of Apple with Pearl and Red Coral added
iii. Conserve of Rose, Syrup of Apple, Cooling Powder of Gems
iv. Apple juice, Bugloss Juice (both clarified), made into a syrup, adding the following powders: Doronicum, Balm, Cinnamon, Aloeswood, Saffron, Amber, Pearl, Musk
5. Stomach heat:
i. Syrup of Apples, Conserve of Rose, sufficient of each. Mix, take half an ounce every morning.
ii. Syrup of Apple, Syrup of Mint
iii. with loss of appetite, make a Syrup of Sour Apple and Quince; if there is Coldness, species are added.
6. Poor or bleary eyesight from Cold, roast apples, mix with egg yolk and apply to the eyes as a plaster. (Wirtzung)
7. Hemorrhoids: mix Orange peel powder with roasted Apple paste into a salve. First wash the Hemorrhoid with Plantain water, then annoint on the salve. (Wirtzung)

Cautions:
Apples are cool, and not suited to people with cold and weak stomach, or excess Damp. However, when stewed, they are neutral.

Syrup of Apples:
i. Take the juice of sweet and sour Apples, of each 5 ounces, seethe it to half, scumming it, then let it stand two days to settle; put thereto three ounces of sugar, and then seethe them together unto a syrup.
ii. Take juices of sweet and sour apples, of each 12 ounces, seethe it until it be well scummed then put thereto 6 ounces of sugar and let it seethe together to a syrup.
They strengthen a weak Heart, relieve Palpitations, and strengthen the Stomach.
Rob of Apple
Rob is the concentrated juice prepared by evaporation with gentle heat, after the juice has been boiled and scum removed.
