Stones taken from the Heads of Snails and Slugs were called Lapis Celonites and Lapis Limacis respectively; they were usually regarded as synonymous, the term Lapis Limacis usually being used for either; Limacis is Latin for both Slug and Snail.

Lapis Limacis is a small white oval stone found in the heads of Slugs.
Cochlites, regarded as similar to Lapis Limacis, are thought to be fossil shells with a mouth like a snail. See Fossil Shells. |
