YELLOW SOY BEAN
1. Strengthen Spleen, Benefit Qi:
-promotes strength and enhances 7 Tissues (Tibet)
-beneficial in the elderly
-Menopause, Osteoporosis
-anti-diabetic activity
2. Benefits Spleen, Reduce Stagnation:
-Diarrhea associated with Food Stagnation
-Abdominal distention
3. Clears Damp, Promotes Urine:
-Edema, water retention; especially associated with Spleen deficiency
-anti-obesity effect has been noted
4. Settles Wind:
-Hypertension
5. Resolves Toxin:
-poisoning (Tibet); Toxemia
-used in preparation of toxic herbs, notably Aconite (TCM)

BLACK SOY BEAN
1. Strengthens Kidneys:
-Lower Back pain from Kidney deficiency
-Enuresis; water retention, associated with Kidney deficiency

PREPARED SOY BEAN:
Fermented Soy bean

-clears Summer-heat and Damp-Heat; acute summer-heat disease with heavyness, body aches and greasy tongue coat

Comment:
1. According to Chinese Philosphy, Yellow Soy Beans are associated with the Earth Element. They benefit Spleen, reduce Damp and increase strength. Black Soy Beans are associated with the Water Element. They more effectively strengthen the Kidneys, clear Water and also increase strength.
2. Soy is rich in protein, fats and minerals, but relatively low in carbohydrates. Wheat flour can be enriched by adding Soy flour. This also gives it a more balanced amino acid profile.
Preparation:
Prepared Soy Bean–a decoction is prepared from exterior-relieving (diaphoretic) herbs, most commonly Artemisia Qing Hao and Mulberry leaf (Sang Ye). This is used to steam Black Soy beans until soft. The beans are removed and covered with the herbs from the decoction, and left to ferment. The beans are then separated from the leaf material and dried for use.
