The following are extra Chinese Formulas, or formulas that are less relevant to our purpose as they use TCM–specific medicines. Nevertheless, there are some very useful and important formulas listed.


An Chong Tang

Bai Hu Tang
White Tiger Decoction


  Gypsum (Shi Gao)                          30 grams
  Anemarrhena Zhi Mu                      9 grams
  Rice (Geng Mi)                                  9 grams
  Honey-fried Licorice
    (Zhi Gan Cao)                                  3 grams

Clears Heat from the Yang Ming (Stomach and Intestines).
Used for High Fever with Sweating, Thirst, and a big Pulse. Used for Diabetes, Encephalitis, Meningitis, Lobar Pneumonia with appropriate symptoms.



Bai Tou Weng Tang
Pulsatilla Deoction


  Pulsatilla Bai Tou Weng                  6 grams
  Phellodendron Huang Bai              9 grams
  Coptis Huang Lian                           9 grams
  Fraxinus Qin Pi                                  9 grams

Abdominal pain, distention, cramping, burning anus when defecating, blood in the stool with a Fast pulse and Red tongue with yellow coat.
Primarily for Acute Dysentery, Amoebic Dysentery, Acute Gastroenteritis, Ulcerative Colitis, Urinary Tract Infection.



Bao Yuan Tang
Preserve the Basal Decoction


  Cinnamon (Rou Gui)                        2 grams
  Ginseng                                             6–9 grams
  Astragalus Huang Qi.                      6–9 grams
  Honey-fried Licorice (Zhi Gan Cao), 3 grams

Spleen and Stomach Qi Deficiency with Cold (Yang deficiency).
Fatigue, weakness, poor digestion, shortness of Breath, aversion to Cold. Weak pulse, pale tongue with white coat.



Bu Fei Tang
Strengthen the Lungs Decoction


  Ginseng                                             9 grams
  Astragalus Huang Qi.                    24 grams
  Aster (Zi Wan).                                 9 grams
  Mulberry bark (Sang Bai Pi)         12 grams
  Schisandra Wu Wei Zi                    6 grams
  Rehmannia Shu Di Huang.           24 grams 

Strengthens Lungs, stops Cough and Wheezing, strengthens Wei Qi (exterior defense).
Cough, Wheezing, shortness of Breath, spontaneous Sweating; useful for Asthma, chronic Cough, chronic Bronchitis, recurring Upper Respiratory Tract Infections, Emphysema, COPD, Pulmonary Tuberculosis. with pale Tongue and a Weak pulse.
Additions:
1. more severe Qi deficiency, add Atractylodes Bai Zhu and Licorice.
2. If Kidneys are weak, add Walnut or Gecko (Ge Jie)



Bu Fei E Jiao Tang
Strengthen the Lungs Decoction with Ass Hide Glue


  Ass Hide Glue (E Jiao)                     9 grams
  Burdock seed (Niu Bang Zi)           3 grams
  Aristolchia fruit (Ma Dou Ling)       6 grams
  Almond kernel (Xing Ren)              6 grams
  Honey-fried Licorice (Zhi Gan Cao), 3 grams

Nourishes Lung Yin, stops Coughing, stops Bleeding.
Cough, Wheezing, dry Throat, dry Cough with scanty sputum, with or without Blood. Red tongue with dry Coat, Rapid, thready pulse.
* CAUTION: contains Aristolchia which is no longer used.



Bu Gan Tang
Strengthen the Liver Decoction


  Chaenomelas Mu Gua                    6–9 grams
  Ligusticum Chuan Xiong                6 grams
  Rehmannia Shu Di Huang            15–24 grams
  Dang Gui                                           9–12 grams
  Paeonia Bai Shao                            9–15 grams
  Zizyphus
Suan Zao Ren                 6–9 grams
  Honey-fried Licorice (Zhi Gan Cao), 3–6 grams

Strengthens the Liver, nourishes Liver Yin and Blood, calms the Mind and Nerves.
Headache, Dizziness, Tinnitus, blurred Vision, Photophobia, Cramps, Restless Leg Syndrome; tongue is pale (is Blood deficient) or red and dry (if Yin is more deficient), Pulse is wiry and rapid, or weak.



Chai Hu Gui Zhi Tang
Bupleurum & Cinnamon twig Decoction


  Bupleurum Chai Hu                      12 grams
  Scutellaria Huang Qin                    4

  Ginseng                                            4 ½ grams
  Pinellia Ban Xia                               6 grams
  Cinnamon twig (Gui Zhi)                4 ½ grams
  Paeonia (Bai Shao)                         4 ½

  Licorice (Zhi Gan Cao)                   3 grams
  Fresh Ginger (Sheng Jiang)          3 slices
  Jujube (Da Zao)                              6 pieces

Shaoyang disorders. Harmonises exterior and interior.
Fever, Chills, nausea, distention in abdomen.
Cholecystitis, Gall Stones, chronic Hepatitis, chronic Pancreatitis, Influenza, Gastro-duodenal Ulcers, Liver Cirrhosis


Chai Hu Gui Zhi Gan Jiang Tang
Bupleurum, Cinnamon twig and Ginger Decoction


  Bupleurum Chai Hu                      15 grams
  Scutellaria Huang Qin                    9 grams
  Trichosanthes Tian Hua Fen       12 grams
  Cinnamon twig (Gui Zhi)              12 grams
  Ginger (Gan Jiang)                         6 grams
  Oyster shell (Mu Li)                      20 grams
  Licorice (Zhi Gan Cao)                   3 grams

Shaoyang disorder with Fluid accumulation.
Warms Interior to clear Fluid.
Bronchitis, Cholecystitis, Influenza, Malaria, Pneumonia



Chai Hu Jia Long Gu Mu Li Tang
Bupleurum plus Dragon Bone & Oyster Shell Decoction


  Bupleurum Chai Hu                      12 grams

Shaoyang disorder: Fullness in the chest, insomnia, anxiety, palpitations, irritability.
Used for conditions including Anxiety, Depression, Hypertension, Hyperthyroidism, Mental Illness



Ding Chuan Tang
Decoction for Asthma


  Gingko Bai Guo                                9 grams
  Ephedra Ma Huang                         9 grams
  Perilla Zi Su Zi                                  6 grams
  Coltfoots (Kuan Dong Hua)            9 grams
  Almond kernel (Xing Ren)              9 grams
  Pinellia Ban Xia                                9 grams
  Mulberry bark
(Sang Bai Pi)           9 grams
  Scutellaria Huang Qin                    6 grams
  Licorice                                             3 grams

Cough and Wheezing from Phlegm-Heat Congestion.
Cough and Wheezing with thick yellow Phlegm; Cough, acute and chronic Bronchitis, Bronchial Asthma, Bronchiolitis. Especially for Asthma in Children.

NOTE:
1. Ephedra can be omitted if there is no Asthma.
2. Avoid overdose in children as Gingko and Ephedra are potentially toxic.



Ding Jing Tang
Stablize Menstruation Decoction


  Dodder seed (Tu Si Zi)
  Paeonia Bai Shao               
  Dang Gui                                           9 grams each
  Rehmannia Shu Di Huang
  Dioscorea Shan Yao.                       4 ½ grams each

  Poria Fu Ling                                    3 grams
  Schizonepetae Jing Jie.                 2 grams
  Bupleurum Chai Hu                        1 ½ grams

Moves Li Qi, Nourishes Blood and Yin, clears Damp.
Tongue may have slight tooth-marks or slight red edges, pulse is wiry
Irregular periods, scanty bleeding or clotting, breast distention, premenstrual tension, depression



Ding Xiang Shi Di Tang
Clove and Persimmon Decoction


  Persimmon calyx (Shi Di)               9 grams
  Fresh Ginger (Sheng Jiang)           6 grams
  Ginseng (Ren Shen)                        3 grams
  Clove (Ding Xiang)                          6 grams

Warms the Stomach, reverses rebellious (uprising) Qi. Tongue has a white coat, with a deep, slow pulse.
Hiccups, Belching, Nausea, Vomiting and Gastritis



E Jiao Ji Zi Huang Tang
Ass-hide Gelatin and Egg Yolk Decoction


  Ass-hide Gelatin (E Jiao).              6 grams
  Egg Yolk.                                          2
  Rehmannia Sheng Di                   12 grams
  Paeonia Bai Shao                           9 grams
  Uncaria Gou Teng.                         6 grams
  Abalone shell (Shi Jue Ming)      15 grams
  Oyster shell (Mu Li).                      12 grams
  Poria sclerotium Fu Shen            12 grams
  Trachelospermum Luo Shi Teng 9 grams

Nourishes Yin and Blood, settles Wind.
Spasms, Tremors, Dizziness, Vertigo, Tinnitus, Cerebral Embolism, Sequela of stroke, Parkinsonism, Alzheimer's
Crimson tongue with a scant coat, thready, rapid Pulse.



Er Xian Tang
Two-Immortal Decoction


  Curculigo Xian Mao                         6–15 grams
  Epimedium Yin Tang Huo.             9–15 grams
  Morinda Bai Ji Tian                          9 grams
  Phellodendron Huang Bai             4
½–9 grams
  Anemarrhena Zhi Mu.                     4 ½
–9 grams
  Dang Gui.                                          9 grams

Kidney Yin and Yang deficiency with deficient Heat or rising Fire. Tongue is light red and dry, pulse is weak and rapid.
Especially for pre- and post- menopausal syndrome with hot flushes, sweating, nervousness, fatigue, insomnia, palpitations, lower back weakness.
Also for Amenorrhea, chronic Nephritis, Erectile dysfunction etc. associated with Kidney weakness.



Fang Ji Huang Qi Tang
Stephania and Astragalus Decoction


  Stephania Han Fang Ji.                  12 grams
  Astragalus Huang Qi.                     15 grams
  Atractylodes Bai Zhu.                      9 grams
  Fresh Ginger (Sheng Jaing)            4 pieces
  Jujube (Da Zao).                                1 piece
  Licorice (Gan Cao).                           6 grams

Strengthens Spleen, tonifies Qi, clears Damp, promotes Urine.
Chills, sweating, heaviness of the body, difficult Urination, Edema, puffy and swollen joints.
Used for Acute Glomerulonephritis, Nephritis, Cardiac Edema, Edema of Pregnancy, Congestive Heart Failure, Dysuria



Fu Ling Gui Zhi Gan Cao Da Zao Tang
Poria, Cinnamon twig, Licorice & Jujube Decoction


  Poria Fu Ling                                  25 grams
  Cinnamon twig Gui Zhi                 12 grams
  Jujube (Da Zao)                              15 pieces
  Honey-fried Licorice (Zhi Gan Cao) 6 grams 

Strengthens the Spleen, clears Damp, promotes Urine.
Used for fullness in the Chest, Palpitations, short of Breath, Coughing, Vertigo, expectorating clear, watery sputum.
Good for distention or palpitations below the diaphragm.



Fu Yuan Huo Xue Tang
Restore Health by Invigorating Blood Decoction


  Rhubarb (Da Huang)                     30 grams
  Peach kernel (Tao Ren).                  9 grams
  Safflower (Hong Hua).                     6 grams
  Pangolian scales (Chuan Shan Jia), 6 grams
  Dang Gui                                           9 grams
  Trichosanthes Tian Hua Fen         9 grams
  Bupleurum Chai Hu                      15 grams
  Licorice (Gan Cao)                          6 grams

Coarsely grind and use 30 grams to make a draft with 3 parts water, 1 part wine. Take warm.
Moves the Blood, clears Stasis, opens Channels
Trauma, Strains, Sprains, Injuries of muscles, joints or soft tissue with severe pain; Fractures, Concussion, Hyperplasia of the Breasts
CAUTION: Not used during pregnancy.



Fu Zi Xie Xin tang
Aconite Drain the Epigastrium Decoction


  Rhubarb (Da Huang)                      12 grams
  Coptis Huang Lian                           5 grams
  Scutellaria Huang Qin                     5 grams
  Aconitum Fu Zi                                 5 grams

Warms the Yang, clears Damp-Heat and Toxin
For Vomiting, Diarrhea with Sweating, aversion to Cold with cold extremities. Deep, weak pulse.



Gan Cao Gan Jiang Fu Ling Bai Zhu Tang
Licorive, Ginger, Poria and Atractylodes Decoction


  Ginger (Gan Jiang)                         12 grams
  Atractylodes Bai Zhu                     6 grams
  Licorice (Gan Cao)                          6 grams
  Poria Fu Ling                                  12 grams

Clears Cold and Damp from the Lower Body. Deep, slow or weak pulse. Pale tongue with a wet and white coating.
Cold and Pain in the lower body and lower back, heaviness of the lower body. Used for Lumbago, Sciatica, Enuresis, Diarrhea, Arthritis



Gan Cao Gan Jiang Tang
Licorice and Ginger Decoction


  Ginger (Gan Jiang).                         6 grams
  Honey-fried Licorice
    (Zhi Gan Cao)                               12 grams

Warms the Lungs and Stomach, clears Cold.
Cold extremities, excess salivation, irritable, dizziness, frequent Urination; Pale, wet tongue with weak or deep and slow pulse.
1. Stomach Cold and Weakness.
2. Lung atrophy from Cold and weakness of the Spleen and Stomach.
Used for chronic Gastritis, Peptic Ulcers, Enuresis, Emphysema.



Gan Cao Xie Xin Tang
Licorice Drain the Epigatrium Decoction


  Pinellia Ban Xia                                9 grams
  Ginger (Gan Jiang)                          6 grams
  Scutellaria Huang Qin                    6 grams
  Coptis Huang Lian                          3 grams
  Ginseng                                            6 grams
  Jujube (Da Zao)                               4 pieces
  Honey-fried Licorice
    (Zhi Gan Cao)                               12 grams

Stomach Weakness with Food Stagnation
Low energy, undigested Food in the stool, distention, irritability; thick, yellow tongue coating with a rapid, slippery and weak pulse.
Chronic Gastritis, Gastroenteritis, Gastro-duodenal Ulcers, chronic Hepatitis, Liver Cirrhosis.



Gan Mai Da Zao Tang
Licorice, Wheat and Jujube Decoction


  Triticum Fu Xiao Mai                      9–15 grams
  Licorice (Gan Cao)                          9 grams
  Jujube (Da Zao)                              4 pieces

Used for Liver Qi Stagnation with Heart Blood deficiency.
Irritability, talking to oneself, constantly sad, crying, mental illness, sleep disturbance, talking nonsense, absurd behavior.
Depression, hysteria, menopausal syndrome, neurosis, phobias, postpartum depression, postpartum palpitations, PMS.



Ge Gen Huang Lian Huang Qin Tang
Kudzu, Coptis and Scutellaria Decoction


  Kudzu (Ge Gen)                             15 grams
  Scutellaria Huang Qin                   9 grams
  Coptis Huang Lian                         9 grams
  Licorice (Gan Cao)                         6 grams

Wind-Cold in the exterior with Internal Heat.
Fever, Sweating, slight Chills, Thirst, Diarrhea with burning of the anus and foul-smelling stool, heat in the Chest.
Acute enteritis or gastroenteritis, Dysentery, Cold or Flu, Measles, Diarrhea, Gastritis, Fever, Ulcerative Colitis, Hangover.
* Not used for Diarrhea caused by cold with a deep and slow or weak pulse.



Ge Gen Jia Ban Xia Tang
Kudzu with Pinellia Decoction


  Kudzu (Ge Gen)                             15 grams
  Ephedra (Ma Huang)                     4–9 grams
  Cinnamon twig (Gui Zhi)               3–9 grams
  Paeonia Bai Shao                          3–9 grams
  Fresh Ginger (Sheng Jiang)         3 slices

  Jujube (Da Zao)                              4 pieces
  Licorice (Gan Cao)                         6 grams
  Pinellia (Ban Xia)                            3–9 grams

Tai Yang and Yang Ming disorder combined.
Chills and Fever, stiff neck, shoulder and upper back, fear of Wind and Cold, vomiting, nasal congestion.
Allergic Rhinitis, Bronchitis, Common Cold or Influenza, early-stage encepahlitis, Frozen Shoulder or Tendonitis of the Shoulder, Urticaria. Thin, white tongue coating with a floating, tight pulse.


Ge Gen Tang
Kudzu Decoction


  Kudzu (Ge Gen)                            12 grams
  Paeonia Shao Yao                         6 grams
  Ephedra Ma Huang                      9 grams
  Jujube (Da Zao)                             4 pieces

  Cinnamon twig (Gui Zhi)              3–9 grams
  Fresh Ginger (Sheng Jiang)         3 slices
  Honey-fried Licorice
    (Zhi Gan Cao)                               6 grams

Wind-Cold (at Tai Yang stage).
Chills with Fever, aversion to Cold, neck and upper back stiffness, headache, joint pain, no sweating, acute watery diarrhea.
Allergic Rhinitis, early stage Encephalitis, Influenza, Stomach Flu, Tendonitis of the Shoulder, Upper Respiratory Tract Infection.
* Contraindications:
1. Not used in exterior deficiency with Spontaneous Sweating, exterior Wind-Heat
2. Hypertension, Heart disease



Gu Ben Zhi Beng Tang
Consolidating the Root and Stopping Flooding Decoction


  Astragalus Huang Qi                    15 grams
  Ginseng (Ren Shen)                      12 grams
  Atractylodes Bai Zhu                   18 grams
  Rehmannia Shu Di Huang            9 grams
  Dang Gui                                         6 grams
  Fried Ginger (Pao Jiang)               6 grams

Excess menstrual bleeding from Spleen Qi deficiency (Spleen not able to manage the Blood).
Flooding at the beginning of menstruation with pale, thin and watery blood, blood continues to trickle after the period has stopped, pale face, tired, maybe dizzy, poor appetite. Pale tongue with teethmarks and a weak pulse.
* Not used for excess bleeding from Heat.



Gu Chong Tang
Stabilize Gushing Decoction


  Cornus Shan Zhu Yu                    24 grams
  Calcined Fossil Bones
    (Duan Long Gu)                           24 grams
  Calcined Oyster shell
    (Duan Mu Li)                                24 grams
  Atractylodes Bai Zhu                   30 grams
  Astragalus Huang Qi                    18 grams
  Paeonia Bai Shao                          12 grams
  Cuttlefish bone (Hai Piao Xiao)
   12 grams
  Calcined Trachycarpus
    (Zong Lu Tan)                               6 grams
  Chinese Gall (Wu Bei Zi)              1.5 grams
  Madder (Qian Cao)                        9 grams

Uterine Bleeding or excessive Menstruation with thin, pale blood which either gushes or trickles continuously, along with palpitations, shortness of Breath.
Menorrhagia, Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding, excessive Bleeding Postpartum, Bleeding Peptic Ulcer.
* Not used for extreme bleeding with sweating, cold limbs, and an extremely faint pulse.
