Dislocation is when a Joint is forced out of its normal position due to Trauma.
The dislocation needs to be put back into place, which is called Reduction. As can be seen from the illustrations above, various methods and apparatus were used to Reduce the joint which in some cases requires a lot of force.
Being a form of Trauma, medicines for Trauma are used, these principally being Blood-moving while also reducing Swelling and Inflammation. Internal remedies for Trauma can be given while topical applications are used to reduce Swelling and ease pain.

1. Apply a paste of fresh plant or apply a compress of one of the following: Comfrey, Soloman's Seal, Tansy, Wormwood or Self Heal
2. Ointments of Litharge are applied to keep the joint in place and relieve inflammation. (Ayurveda) 3. Galen applied Elecampane to joints prone to Dislocation 4. Arnica can be applied topically 5. A wash of Alum can be applied warm to ease the pain and inflammation. |
