Bloodstone, Heliotrope

Mineralogical name:
Lapis Heliotropum; Chalcedony group

Parts used:
Levigated Stone

Temperature & Taste:
Cold, dry. Sweet, Slightly Pungent

Constituents:
Silicon dioxide (SiO2), iron

Uses:
1. Clears Heat, Stops Bleeding:

-any type of Bleeding (West, Ayurveda)
-stops excessive Menstruation
-prevents Miscarriage
-Diarrhea and Dysentery, especially with Blood
-for bleeding, Bloodstone is better than Jasper; but they are used similarly.
-To stop bleeding, the stone may be steeped in cold water, then held in the hand, or applied to the bleeding place

    
2. Clears Blood Heat, Resists Poison:
-clears Fire, Heat, Deficient Heat and Heat-Toxin
-cleanse and purify the Blood; Heat and toxin of the Blood
-Rashes, skin diseases from Blood Heat


3. Clears Liver Heat, Benefits the Eyes:
-in Ayurveda for Eye Disorders associated with Bile.
-poor eyesight



Dose:
Levigated Powder: 250mg–1 gram

Comment:
Hematite is also called Bloodstone, leading to confusion sometimes. Hematite was used far more commonly in formulas than the Chalcedony, Bloodstone.

Main Combinations:
1. To Stops Bleeding:
i. Bloodstone with Red Earth and Red Coral
ii. Bloodstone with Madder
2. To prevent Miscarriage:
i. Bloodstone with Mastic and Frankincense
ii. Bloodstone with Pearl
3. Excess Menstrual Bleeding:
i. Bloodstone, Amber, Red Coral
ii. Bloodstone with Amber, Dragons-blood, Red Coral, Lettuce seed, Red Earth (Culpeper)
4. Postpartum Bleeding, Bloodstone, Red Coral, Cinnamon, Tormentil, Tabasheer, Pearl, Shepherd's Purse (Wirtzung)
5. Dysentery, Bloodstone with Red Earth, Red Coral, Rose, Tormentil, Plantain seed
6. To clear Heat from the Blood, Bloodstone with Carnelian
