Botanical name:
Hieracium pilosella (syn. Pilosella officinalis; there are many synonyms for this plant of either Hieracium or Pilosella spp.)

Parts used:
Herb

Temperature & Taste:
Warm, dry (Galen described 2 kinds, one being accounted Cool and moist)
binds, cleanses

Uses:
1. Astringes, Stops Leakage:

-Diarrhea, Dysentery, including that with Blood
-Leukorrhea
-excessive Menstruation
-Hernias (especially in Children) (Syrup of the Juice)

2. Clears Damp, Promotes Urine
-Edema
-Gravel and Stones; regarded as useful for the pain of Stones
-Chronic Jaundice (decoction or Juice in wine)

3. Clears Wind-Heat, Stops Cough:
-Cough, Whooping Cough, beginning Consumption (Syrup of the juice)
-Epilepsy; Facial Paralysis (Avicenna)

4. Externally:
-used for Wounds (both internally and externally)
-as a snuff to stop bleeding of the nose
-as a mouthwash for mouth ulcers
-juice or decoction stops spreading and corroding Ulcers and Cancers (Culpeper)
-causes sneezing
-Facial Paralysis (used as a snuff, Avicenna)



Main Combinations:
1. Diarrhea, Leukorrhea, Excess Sweating, Mouse-ear with Comfrey, Solomans Seal, Plantain, Yarrow, Shepherd's Purse, Raisins (Fuller)
2. Bleeding, Mouse-ear with Daisy, Yarrow, Nettle, Plantain
3. Edema, Mouse-ear with Chicory and Centaury (Culpeper)
4. Whooping Cough, Mouse-ear, Thyme, Marjoram, Licorice
