Cerebrum, Brain


Zoological name:
Dervied from various animals:
  1. Pig, Sheep, Cow
  2. Chicken

Parts used:
1. Decoction
2. Dried and prepared Brain
3. Distilled Water or Spirit


Temperature & Taste:
Neutral, Sweet

Classification:


Uses:
1. Strengthens the Brain:

–Mental dullness or Mental deficiency
–Poor or failing memory
–‘Strengthens the Wit and Memory‘ (Chicken Brain)
–Neurasthenia, melancholy, epilepsy, chorea, migraine, psychosis, insanity, hysteria and other mental illness. (Merc: Cow Brain)

–The brains of a Ram were used for lethargy and excessive sleep (Schroder, Salmon)

Dose:
Prepared Brain in Powder: 100–300mg
Tincture (made of the dried Brain 1 in 10 parts 60% alcohol): 10–30 drops

Preparation:
The membranes and vessels are removed, and the organ is washed well.
1. Dried Brain:
  The organ can be sliced and dried in a low oven.
  Organotherapists used a defatted extract in dried form.
2. Alcohol-prepared Brain:
  The sliced
Brain is dipped in Brandy, then hung to dry in a warm place (or a low oven). This is repeated a number of times until thoroughly dried. This dries it quicker and better, helps preserve the effects, and lessens the unpleasant smell.

Main Combinations:
1. Lethargy, decoct Sheep Brains with Cinnamon and Nutmeg (Schroder)
2. Headache, Dizziness, Numbness, Tinnitus from internal Wind, Pig Brain, Salvia Dan Shen, Ligusticum Chuan Xiong, Gastrodia Tian Ma, Water Buffalo Horn concentrate (as in Zhen Nao Ning Jiao Nong of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia

Major Formulas:
Sheeps Brain 8 Pill (aka Asafetida 8) (Lug klad ril bu)
