* Water Buffalo horn concentrate is used in place of Rhinoceros horn today.
Preparation:
Cinnabar and Realgar are water refined to purify. Powder all the ingredients, then mix the Gold and Silver leaf and form honey pills of 3 grams each. Traditionally, the pills are wrapped in Gold leaf.
Function:
Clears Heat and Toxin, Clears Phlegm-Heat, opens the Orifices of the Mind
Use:
In all the below conditions, there is High Fever, Delirium, restlessness, irritability, excess Phlegm, red or scarlet tongue with a yellow coating and a rapid pulse.
1. Convulsions in children or adults
2. Acute Encephalitis
3. Acute Meningitis
4. Hepatic Coma
5. Toxic Dysentery
6. CVA
7. Sepsis
Dose:
One 3 gram pill twice daily, traditionally with a decoction of Ginseng
Cautions:
1. Not used during Pregnancy
2. Not used in marked Yin deficiency
3. Normally only used for a short period; avoid long-term use due to Cinnabar and Arsenic content.

Similar Formulas:
This formula focuses on opening the orifices (sense organs) and clearing Phlegm. Its ability to clear Heat and Toxin is secondary. An Gong Niu Huang Wan has similar functions and uses, but is more focused on clearing Heat and Toxin.
