Da Huang (Rhubarb)

Rheum palmatum

Dan Nan Xing (Arisaema) ***

Zhe Bei Mu (Fritillary)

Hua Shi (Talcum)

* Cinnabar is to be well washed
** fried with Wheat bran
*** Bile prepared Ariseame is wine-fried

Preparation:

Prepare a very fine Powder. The minerals are to be properly prepared and powdered very finely.

Function:

Clears Heat, Resolves Phlegm, Stops Spasms

Use:

1. Acute Febrile Convulsions
2. Seizures (from Heat)
3. High Fever in infants
4. Acute Cough with Heat and Fever in infants
5. Restlessness, Irritability
6. Night crying in infants
7. Food Stagnation with Heat (high fever, thick phlegm, intestinal heat and distress)

Dose:

900 mg for a child 4–6 years old; lesser doses for younger children.
Mix into warm water to be given.

Cautions:

1. Toxic in overdose or long-term use. Only intended for short-term use in acute conditions.
2. Not used in Cold diseases.

Modifications:

This can be made without Cinnabar. Red Coral or Hematite could be substituted.
