Preparation:
Decoction
As per Chinese convention, herb doses can be adjusted according to the individual.
Can also be prepared as a powder or pills.
Function:
Clears Heat and Toxin, Expels Wind and Damp
Use:
Wind-Heat or Heat-Toxin, especially affecting the upper body and head, the main symptoms being Throat pain, Irritability, dry mouth, thirst, foul breath, itchy skin and eyes, red tongue with a yellow coat, and a rapid pulse.
1. Wind-Heat Common Cold and Flu
2. Tonsillitis, acute pharyngitis
3. Eczema (especially of the upper body, face and scalp)
4. Dermatitis
5. Urticaria
6. Acne vulgaris
7. Rosacea
8. Blackheads and dirty skin
9. Boils, Toxin Sores and Abscesses, especially of the upper back, face and scalp.
10. Conjunctivitis
11. Gingivitis
12. Mastitis
13. Cellulitis
Dose:
The above is boiled to make one cup with can be divided into 2 equal doses to be taken morning and night.
If used as a powder, 2–3 grams can be taken twice daily.
Cautions:
1. Not used long-term
2. Caution with weak digestion
Modifications:
1. Stronger heat and Toxin, or with Constipation add Rhubarb (Da Huang)
2. Acne with excess pus formation, add Coix Yi Yi Ren
