Licorice

Glycyrrhiza glabra

1⁄2 oz.

Currant

Ribes nigrum

2 drams

Preparation:

Decoct until one quarter has wasted, strain and keep

Function:

clears Heat and Swelling, relieves Pain, Firms the Tissues

Use:

1. Acute Swollen Sore Throat
2. Tonsillitis

Dose:

Gargle warm 5–7 times daily

Cautions:

None noted

Modifications:

1. If there is ulceration, add Honey, or Honey of Rose to the strained decoction.
