Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD’s)

Sexually Transmitted Diseases are classed as Infectious Diseases, and so medicines used for against Infectious Diseases are generally applicable. In general, acute cases manifest with Heat and Toxin or Heat and Damp, while chronic cases manifest with deficiency. As always, Formulas need to be chosen which are applicable to the individual.

Ulcers or Pustules of the Genitals

Ulcers and Pustules of the Genitals are generally caused by STD’s.
They can come from:

  • Genital Herpes: Small, itchy, burning or painful blisters or pustules that break open to form raw, oozing, or scabby ulcers. Typically recur periodically.
  • Chancroid (Haemophilus ducreyi): bacterial infection causing small, very painful ulcers on the penis
  • Syphilis: small, round, single usually painless ulcer or open sore
  • Chlamydia: some strains can cause small, usually painless, sores or blisters on the genitals

Sample Treatments:

1. Wash the genitals regularly with a strong decoction of Sage in wine (Macer)
2. “The ashes of a dry Gourd heals quickly the rotten ulcers of the Yard [Penis]”. (Dioscorides)
3. Wine decoction of Olive leaves used as a fomentation.
4. Plantain juice can be applied topically; the clarified juice was injected into the urethra if there are ulcers of it.
5. Litharge mixed with Oil of Roses and applied.
