Preparation:
Prepare the ingredients, Powder, and form honey pills
Function:
Moves the Blood, resolves Blood Stasis, nourishes Blood
Use:
Emaciation, scaly and dry skin, dull complexion, abdominal fullness, darkness of the eyes, dull or pale colored tongue, or dark or bruised spots on the tongue, weak and choppy pulse
1. Serious, chronic or stubborn Blood stagnation
2. Abdominal Masses and Tumors
3. Cirrhosis or Fibrosis of the Liver
4. Liver Tumors
5. Chronic Hepatitis
6. Uterine Tumors; Uterine Leiomyoma
7. Traditionally used for a type of Consumptive disease associated with dry Blood, blood stasis, marked by emaciation, poor appetite and abdominal fullness.
Dose:
3 grams, 1–3 times daily with wine or warm water
Cautions:
1. Avoid during pregnancy
2. Not used in Blood deficiency
Modifications:
1. This can be modified based on similar western formulas; Lacca (Laccifer lacca) can replace Toxicodendron Gan Qi; Pill Millipede could replace Eupolyphaga Tu Bie Chong (Wingless Cockroach); and Comfrey could replace Rehmannia.
2. Due to their less commonly used status, Holotrichia and Tabanus could be omitted without great detriment.
3. Other modifications based on similar Western formulas would be the addition of Madder, Saffron (or Safflower) and Costus.

This is one of the primary commonly used formulas in modern TCM that combines several insect medicines. A number of insect medicines are used in TCM to potently move the Blood and resolve Blood stasis. In the Western Tradition, insect medicines were also held in high regard to open obstructions, this being said to be due to their volatile salt content.
