Preparation:
Decoction. The sources text says to add Rush (Deng Xin Cao) and Lotus seed (Lian Zi).
Function:
Nourishes Heart, Calms the Spirit
Use:
Below conditions with debility, pale tongue and face, weak pulse
1. Palpitations
2. Arrhythmia
3. Ischaemic Heart Disease
4. Anxiety
5. Forgetfulness
6. Neurasthenia
7. Alzheimer’s Disease
8. Psychosis, Schizophrenia, Bi-polar Disorder
Dose:
The above can be taken over the course of a day in three divided doses.
Cautions:
Caution in cold and weak digestion.
Modifications:
1. Weak digestion with poor appetite, add Costus Mu Xiang
2. With Heat, marked by red tongue and fast pulse, add Coptis Huang Lian
3. With Blood Stagnation, take with Safflower (Hong Hua) and Amber (Hu Po)
4. With Phlegm obstructing the Mind/Brain/Spirit, add Calamus (Shi Chang Pu), Arisaema Tian Nan Xing)
5. Severe Palpitations, add Pyster shell (Mu Li), Fossil bones (Long Gu).
