Black Poppy seed

Papaver somniferum nigrum

2 drams ea.

Winter Cherry seed

Physalis alkekengi

½ oz.

Opium

Opium

1 scruple

Camomile

Matricaria recutita

Violet flower

Viola odorata

½ handful ea.

Preparation:

Form a tincture by covering with 4 finger-breadths of alcohol.

Function:

clears Heat, calms the Mind, eases Pain, promotes Rest

Use:

1. Insomnia
2. Restlessness
3. Pain
4. Used as an anesthetic for minor surgery, cauterisation, amputation, tooth extraction etc

Dose:

Mix with Nightshade water and apply warm to the wrists and temples.
No doubt, small doses were also used internally.
