Preparation:

Function:
Strengthen Heart and Kidney, Astringes Urine, Stabilizes Essence
Use:
1. Frequent Urination
2. Enuresis, Nocturia
3. Neurological Bladder dysfunction
4. Bedwetting
5. Poor Memory, Poor Concentration, weakness of Spirit
Dose:
6 grams before bed with a suitable decoction, often decoction of Ginseng
Cautions:
1. Not for Enuresis or frequent Urination associated with Heat.
Modifications:
1. Unless the deficiency is severe, Codonopsis Dang Shen is usually used in place of Ginseng in 2–3 times the dose.
2. Weakness and fatigue, add Astragalus Huang Qi
3. To enhance the astringent effect, add Rosehip (Jin Ying Zi) and Lotus seed (Lian Zi)
4. Spermatorrhea, add Cynomorium Suo Yang and Cornus Shan Zhu Yu
5. If with Yin Deficiency, take with Liu Wei Di Huang Wan.
6. Palpitations, Forgetfulness and Insomnia, take with Tian Wang Bu Xin Dan.
7. Palpitations, Forgetfulness and Insomnia, add Zizyphus spinosa Suan Zao Ren, and Schisandra Wu Wei Zi.

“A man in my neighborhood urinated several tens of times during one day, and the urine looked like thick rice slop. He was absentminded, emaciated and tired, and ate ever less. He had acquired this from exhaustive sex with women. I had him ingest Mantis Egg Case Sang Piao Xiao powder as a remedy, and he was cured even before he had taken one complete dose. This medication pacifies Spirit and hun (Soul). It stabilizes Heart and Mind, serves to cure forgetfulness, supplements Heart Qi, and ends frequent urination. To prepare it take one liang (30 grams) each of Mantis Egg Case Sang Piao Xiao, Polygala Yuan Zhi, Dragon (Fossil) bones (Long Gu), Calamus Shi Chang Pu, Ginseng, Poria Fu Ling, Dang Gui and tortoise shell (Gui Ban) roasted in vinegar, and grind these ingredients to powder. Have the patient send down, when he goes to bed, two qian (6 grams) mixed with Ginseng decoction”. (Kou Zong Shi)
