Preparation:
Powder finely and form pills.
In the Pharmacopoeia, they are made into micro water pills, 60 pills weighing 0.3 grams.
Function:
Clear Heat, Resists Poison, Reduce Swelling, Alleviate Pain
Use:
Only used for excess heat and toxin conditions, with fever, painful swelling and inflammation, high coloured urine, red tongue, yellow coat, rapid pulse
“Clears heat and resolves toxicity, reduces swelling and alleviates pain. Used for sore throat, boils, carbuncles, and furuncles”. (Chinese Pharmacopoeia)
1. Acute Severe Sore Throat
2. Painful Pharyngitis
3. Severe Tonsillitis
4. Glandular Swelling
5. Acute Throat Abscesses
6. Acute Suppurative Otitis Media
7. Boils and Carbuncles (internally and topically)
8. Deep-seated Abscesses (internally and topically)
9. Erysipelas
Dose:
Not used for more than 5 consecutive days. Once acute symptoms have abated, other milder formulas are used to clear Heat and Toxin.
10 micro pills (50mg), three times daily, with warm water after meals. Dose for infants must be ascertained based on age and weight.
Used topically for boils and abscesses, they are dissolved with a little water or vinegar and applied.
Cautions:
This is a potent and potentially toxic medicine. The manufacturer regulates amounts of Realgar and Toad Venom to ensure efficacy without toxicity or accumulation.
1. Avoid overdose. Not suitable for long-term use
2. Not used during Pregnancy or Breastfeeding
3. Not used in Cold or Yin deficient conditions
Toxicity:
Toad Venom makes accounts for 5.7% and Realgar, 19%.
