Botanical name:

Nelumbo nucifera

Parts used:

Receptacle

Temperature & Taste:

Warm, dry. Bitter

Classification:

L. Stop Bleeding:

Uses:

1. Clears Blood Stasis, Stops Bleeding:

-Blood in the Urine
-Uterine Bleeding, profuse Menstruation
-Threatened Miscarriage

2. Clears Damp-Heat, Stops Leakage:

-Childhood Diarrhea, especially from Heat and Damp during Summer
-Damp-type Rashes and Eczema

Dose:

Decoction: 4.5–9 grams

Preparation:

Charred to enhance its hemostatic effect.

Substitutes:

Lotus and Water Lily are very similar in use. In general the corresponding part of each plant can be used as a substitute. 

Main Combinations:

1. Excess Menstruation or Uterine Bleeding, with Motherwort
2. Threatened Miscarriage, with Dang Gui and Rehmannia Shu Di Huang
