Botanical name:

Ligularia amplexicaulis (syn. L. corymbosa, Senecio amplexicaulis)
According to one classification, there are a number of types of Sho in Tibetan Medicine:

  1. Ri sho: Ligularia amplexicaulis; L. virgaurea is used in Nepal
  2. Klung sho: Rumex spp.
  3. Lug sho: Oxyria digyna
  4. Rgya sho: Rumex crispus
  5. Chu sho: Rumex acetosa
  6. Sga sho: Cremanthoidium nepalense

Several species of Ligularia are used similarly in TCM.

Parts used:

Herb, Root

Temperature & Taste:

Cool, dry. Bitter, Sweet

Uses:

1. Clears Damp-Heat:

-indigestion,
-Ulcers

2. Resists Poison:

-chronic Epidemic diseases
-diseases due to Toxicity and Poisoning
-abscess, boils
-internally and externally to heal wounds

3. Emetic:

-used as an emetic for Phlegm and Phlegm-Bile diseases (root)

Dose:

Powder: 1–3 grams

Substitute:

1. Yellow Dock and Sorrel are regarded as varieties of Sho and may generally be substituted.
