Preparation:
Powder, grind with sweet Almond oil; then with the clarified juices of Quince, Pomegranate, Celery and Fennel, of each 1⁄2 lb. and 4 1⁄2 lbs. Honey, form an Electuary.
Function:
Purges Phlegm and Damp, settles Wind, strengthens the Spleen
Use:
1. Phlegm and Damp affecting the Spleen and Stomach
2. Poor appetite and digestion from Damp
3. Nausea and Vomiting
4. Loose Bowels from Spleen and Stomach Damp
5. Kidney Pain
6. Colic
Dose:
2–5 drams (usually 2 drams is sufficient)
Comment:
This was credited with cleansing and strengthening the organs of digestion and nutrition.
Cautions:
1. Not used in Pregnancy
2. Not used in Yin deficiency
Modifications:
1. For Damp and Burnt Humors obstructing the Spleen, combine with Confectio Hamech.
2. Melancholy affecting the Heart, Liver or Spleen combine with Diasenna
3. Melancholy affecting the Liver, combine with Agrimony and Syrup of Chicory with Rhubarb.
4. Purge Phlegm and Damp from the Liver or Uterus, combine with Diaphoenicum
5. Purge Phlegm and Damp from the Kidneys, combine with Benedicta Laxativa
6. Purge Phlegm and Damp of the Uterus, take with a decoction of Feverfew and Mugwort
