Da Zao (Jujube)

Zizyphus jujuba

Gan Cao (Licorice)

Glycyrrhiza uralensis

6 grams

Preparation:

Decoction

Function:

Strengthens Spleen, tonifies Qi, clears Damp, promotes Urine

Use:

Chills, sweating, heaviness of the body, difficult Urination, Edema, puffy and swollen joints, floating, weak or small pulse
1. Edema including Nephritic and Cardiac
2. Fluid swelling in the lower legs
3. Acute Glomerulonephritis
4. Nephritis
5. Edema of Pregnancy
6. Congestive Heart Failure
7. Dysuria
8. Strangury
9. Arthritis
10. Rheumatoid Arthritis

Dose:

The above is taken over the course of the day

Cautions:

Not for Heat-type Edema

Modifications:

1. More severe cold, add Asarum Xi Xin
2. Fullness and distention in the chest and abdomen, add Citrus Chen Pi and Magnolia Hou Po
3. Abdominal Pain, add Paeonia Bai Shao
4. Qi Deficiency, add Codonopsis Dang Shen
5. Severe Edema, add Poria Fu Ling and Cinnamon twig (Gui Zhi)
6. Acute Glomerulonephritis add Poria Fu Ling, Cinnamon twig (Gui Zhi)
7. Swelling of the legs, add Poria Fu Ling, Job’s tears (Yi Yi Ren)
8. Severe Damp, add Poria Fu Ling and Dark Atractylodes Cang Zhu
9. Chronic Nephritis, or Edema due to Damp, take with Wu Ling San
10. Arthritis, add Saposhnikovia Fang Feng, Angelica pubescens Du Huo,
11. Arthritis from severe Cold-Damp, add Asarum Xi Xin, Cinnamon twig (Gui Zhi), Aconitum Fu Zi
