Emblic Myrobalan

Emblica officinalis

2 drams ea.

Cinnamon

Cinnamonum zeylanicum

½ oz.

Clove

Eugenia caryophyllus

Galangal

Alpina officinarum

2 drams ea.

Nutmeg

Myristica fragrans

Marjoram

Oreganum marjorana

Aniseed

Pimpinella anisum

½ oz. ea.

Preparation:

Decoct the Raisin and Licorice in 2 ½ lbs. of water, then strain; next add the Myrobalans beaten into course powder, then strain; add 1 lb. Sugar and boil to the thickness of a Syrup. Towards the end, add the remaining herbs in fine powder, and form an Electuary.

Function:

nourishes Qi and Blood, moves Qi

Use:

“It strengthens all the principal parts wonderfully, as Head, Heart, Stomach, Liver, Spleen, Bowels and generative Members. And not only so, but also Purges the Superfluities of the Concoctions, if any remain, and the use thereof does hinder Gray Hairs, and preserves to the last Old Age, and causes a good Colour in all the Body”. (Salmon)

3. promotes Health and Longevity
4. strengthens, but clears excess Humors
5. hinders Grey hair
6. strengthens Digestion
7. promotes a good complexion

Dose:

2 drams each morning

Cautions:

“In Melancholy Constitutions, and Bodies subject to obstructions, and abounding with ill Humours, it is not proper”. (Salmon)
