Botanical name:

Dolichos biflorus (syn. Vigna unguiculata)

Parts used:

Seed

Temperature & Taste:

Warm, dry.

Uses:

1. Clears Damp, Promotes Urine, Clears Stones:

-Edema, Fluid retention
-Leukorrhea
-Gravel, Stones (API)
-also for Obesity (Porridge or soup taken)

2. Moves the Blood:

-Amenorrhea (API)
-promotes Lochial discharge

3. Promotes Milk:

-promotes and enriches Breast Milk

Dose:

Powder: 3–6 grams
A standard decoction can be taken in doses of 50–100mls.
Can be made into Soup or Porridge to take

Correctives:

1. Turnip seed
2. Radish leaf (Unani)

Substitutes:

1. Coleus
2. Jew’s Stone (for Calculus)

Main Combinations:

1. Colic, Liver or Spleen swelling and obstruction, Horse gram with Asafetida, Ginger (Unani)

Cautions:

Generally Safe.
Excess use was said to be harmful for the Lungs.
