Botanical name:
Corallina officinalis (syn. C. anglica)
Parts used:
Whole dried Seaweed
Temperature & Taste:
Cold, dry. Salty
Uses:
1. Kills Worms:
-used for Worms, especially in Children
2. Clears Damp, Resolves Stones:
-used for Gravel and Stones
-‘very profitable in hot Gouts’ (Salmon)
3. Clears Stomach Heat:
-antacid in gastric reflux, belching
-binding and strengthening (Salmon); astringes and clears Heat
Dose:
Powder: 500mg–3 grams (½ scruple–1 dram) with Wine, Milk or Cassia.
Preparation:
Wash well and dried.
Main Combinations:
1. For Worms:
i. the Powder was followed with a dose of Rhubarb to purge the Worms out. (Matthiolus)
ii. Coralline powder 8 oz., Flowers of Sulphur (6 oz.), mix; Dose: ½–1 dram. (Vermillion 3 oz. was added) (Salmon)
