Saxifraga umbellata, Sum cu tig སུམ་ཅུ་ཏིག

Botanical name:
Saxifraga spp.
Several species have been given:
  1. S. umbellata
  2. S. przewalskii
  3. S. tanguitica

Parts used:
Whole plant

Temperature & Taste:
Cool, dry. Bitter

Uses:
1. Clears Liver Heat:
-heat of the Liver and Gall Bladder
-abdominal pain from Liver heat
-Bile disorders
-Fever from Liver heat or excess Bile

2. Clears Heat from the Blood:
-Heat of the Blood


DOSE:

SUBSTITUTES:
1. In Tibetan Medicine, Saxifraga Sum cu tig is considered to be closely related to Swertia Tig ta. Both are extremely bitter and have similar qualities. Swertia Tig ta is a suitable substitute.
2. Gentian; Centaury

Main Combinations:
1. Liver Heat, Saxifraga Sum cu tig with White Sandalwood, Calcite, Safflower, Tabasheer

Sandalwood 18 (Tsan dan bco brgyad) (Tibetan Medicine)
Cooling Formula of the Secret Oral Tradition (Man ngag bsil sbyor) (Tibetan Medicine)
Crystal Moon 37 (Zla shel so bdun) (Tibetan Medicine)
Turquoise 25 (Gyu 25) (Tibetan Medicine)

Cautions:
Not used in Cold and weak Stomach
