Saussurea, Kon pa gab skyes ཀོན་པ་གབ་སྐྱེས

Kon pa gab skyes (Tibet)
Kon pa gab chen (Tibet); Wan Chi Feng Mao Ju 弯齿风毛菊 (TCM) (S. likiangensis, 'Greater' variety)
Gab Cheng;
Dong E Luo Feng Mao Ju (TCM) (S. pachyneura, 'Lesser' variety) (Tibet)

Botanical name:
Saussurea spp.
There are 2 types of Kon pa gab skyes:
  1. Kon pa gab skyes: 'Female' or Greater type: Saussurea likiangensis (syn. S. przewalskii, S. cirsioides, S. giraldii, S. likiangensis,; S.
    likiangensis var. integrifolia; S. likiangensis var. siningensis), S. kingii
  2. Kon pa gab chung: 'Male' or Lesser type; Saussurea pachyneura (syn. S. bodinieri, S. kunthiana, S. sikangensis)

Parts used:
Whole herb

Temperature & Taste:
Cool, dry. Bitter

Uses:
1. Clears Heat, Stops Bleeding, Promotes Healing:
-Bleeding
-Wounds, both new and chronic
-regarded as joining cut or ruptured channels together

2. Clears Heat, Resists Poison:
-Fever from Blood and Wind
-Neuralgia, Neuritis,
-Meat poisoning

COMMENT:
This medicine is commonly used as a vegetable substitute for Bear Bile in Tibetan Medicine.
