Botanical name:
Ginkgo biloba

Parts used:
Leaf

Temperature & Taste:
Neutral, Dry, Bitter, Sweet

Uses:
1. Consolidates Lungs, Stops Wheezing:
-Coughing, Wheezing
-Chronic Cough, Cough with excess phlegm

2. Move the Blood, Clears Stasis, Ease Pain:
-Coronary Heart Disease, Angina Pectoris (Chinese Pharmacopoeia)
-Hyperlipemia
-Intermittent claudication (Commission E)
-peripheral arterial occlusive disease

3. Moves the Blood, Settles Wind, Benefits the Brain:
-'symptomatic relief of organic brain dysfunction' (Commission E)
-Dementia, Alzheimer's Disease
-improves Concentration and Memory
-Vertigo, Tinnitus (Commission E)
-Dizziness, Headache with Anxiety


DOSE:
3–6 grams in Infusion
Standardized Extract (to contain 24% flavone, 6% terpene lactones): 40–80mg, two or three times daily.

Main Combinations:
1. Benefit the Brain in the aged:
i. Ginkgo leaf, Rosemary, Balm
ii. Ginkgo leaf, Rosemary, Basil, Siberian Ginseng, Withania
iii. Ginkgo leaf, Centella, Sesame seed, Frankincense
iv. Ginkgo leaf, Centella, Withania, Calamus
2. Circulation tonic:
i. Ginkgo leaf, Hawthorn, Ginger
ii. Ginkgo leaf, Rosemary, Calendula
iii. Ginkgo leaf, Mistletoe, Hawthorn
iv. Ginkgo leaf, Hawthorn, Horse Chestnut, Bilberry fruit
v. Ginkgo leaf, Lobelia, Ginger
vi. Ginkgo leaf, Turmeric, Panax notoginseng San Qi
3. Old Age tonic:
i. Ginkgo leaf, Rosemary
ii. Ginkgo leaf, Schisandra, Ginseng

Major Formulas:

Cautions:
1. Avoid large doses or long-term use due to toxicity.
2. Not used for acute (exterior) conditions such as Cold and Flu (TCM)
3. Should not be used in those with Bleeding disorders; caution in those taking anticoagulants
