Buddleja officinalis

Parts used:
Flower bud

Temperature & Taste:
Mildly Cool. Sweet. Mildly Toxic

Classifications:
B. Clear Strong Heat or Fire

Uses:
1. Clears Liver Heat, Brightens the Eyes:
-red, painful, swollen eyes
-excess tearing
-superficial visual obstructions
-Photophobia
-used for excess or deficiency, Liver Heat or Wind-Heat, depending on the herbs it is used with


DOSE:
In Decoction: 3–9 grams

Main Combinations:
1. Red and Sore eyes or excess tearing from Liver heat or Wind-Heat:
i. Buddleia with Horsetail (Mu Zei)
ii. Buddleia with Eyebright

2. Poor or blurred vision, Buddleia with Lycium Gou Qi ('Goji'), Dodder seed (Tu Si Zi)

Major Formulas:


Cautions:
Toxic in overdose. Symptoms may include Nausea, Vomiting, Dizziness, Tremors and Numbness
