* Atractylodes Bai Zhu, Nutmeg (Rou Dou Kou), Leaven (Shen Qu), Malted Barley (Mai Ya) are all dry-fried.
** Coptis Huang Lian is wine-fried.
Preparation:
Powder and form pills with water or honey.
Function:
Strengthens Spleen, Increases Qi, Harmonizes the Stomach, clears Food Stagnation, Stops Diarrhea
Use:
Poor appetite, indigestion, epigastric distention or bloating, loose stool, greasy tongue coat, weak pulse
1. Poor appetite with Indigestion
2. Diarrhea
3. Chronic Gatsritis
4. Chronic Colitis
5. Ulcerative Colitis
6. Crohn's disease
7. Chronic Pancreatitis
8. Caeliac Disease
9. Duodenal Ulcer
Dose:
Take 6–9 grams of pills 2 or 3 times daily before meals with warm water.
Cautions:
Not used for acute Gastroenteritis or Food Stagnation from overconsumption.
Modifications:
1. Codonopsis Dang Shen is often substituted for Ginseng.
2. If there is no Heat symptoms, remove Coptis Huang Lian
3. If there is Cold, remove Coptis Huang Lian and add Ginger (Gan Jiang)
4. Nausea and vomiting, add Pinellia Ban Xia and take the pills with Ginger tea.
5. Diarrhea early in the morning with undigested food, take with Li Zhong Wan.
